Why server-side isn't good enough

I really hate depending on server-side technology... del.icio.us went down yesterday and I felt helpless.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- why don't these guys believe in application development? I think a product model would be more profitable than a subscription/advertising model anyhow.

I'd buy a del.icio.us app to run on my computer, and I'm sure they could charge £500 and up for a server license. Or even better, sell to the ISPs.
